HOW YOU KNOW HIM: He has served as the model for several book and film characters, most notably Norman Bates (Psycho), Leatherface (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre), Buffalo Bill (The Silence of the Lambs) and the character Dr. Oliver Thredson (American Horror Story).

He used his victims to create wastebaskets of human skin, chair coverings of human skin, skulls as bedposts, bowls of human skin and masks made from the skin of female heads just to name a few.
